Nell and Jack van Rossen were among the original members of the Dutch Reformed Church, who built the church in Hill Street and then turned their attention to the care of the older members of the fellowship by building 12 units.
The van Rossen’s were approached by several Board members, who were looking for a couple who would be interested in starting work at Warrina Homes. Jack was to be the Maintenance Manager, quite literally, the ‘Jack of all trades’. Although wages were very low, they were happy to accept the position, as it meant that Jack would have more time for their children as they grew up.
